ILAE Opens New Office, Expands Board and Hires New Executive Director
August 2011

In August 2011, ILAE hired Ellen Taussig, co-founder and long-time head of the Northwest School,  and former Vice-President of ILAE’s Board of Directors, as its new Executive Director.  In September 2011 we moved into an office at 222 Fairview Avenue North, in south Lake Union, and added a new e-mail, ethioschool@q.com and phone number,206-682-2125. We held an Open House on Oct. 13.  If you missed it, come by and visit us!

We have also added three new board members:  Deanna Petersen, a marketing professional from Weber Shandwick, specializing in Africa; Deb Agrin, of Vintana who brings experience and skills in international strategic thinking; and Niomi Fisseha of Campiche law firm.  We will continue to strengthen the Board by adding new members.

We will launch our first preparatory program in September, 2012.

Boeing Helps ILAE Deliver 2200 Textooks to Ethiopia
2011

Earlier this year, The Sunshine Corporation, a major construction company in Ethiopia, asked ILAE to collect and transport textbooks to be distributed to underserved schools in Ethiopia.  Boeing generously offered to transport our books on a new Boeing airplane being delivered to Ethiopian Airlines.  Partnering with Cascadia Community College, and through the volunteer work of community college students from several campuses, we were able to successfully collect and send over 2200 books which have been delivered to Ethiopian schools in need.

Curriculum Consultant RFP update (RFP is now closed)

We have completed the 1st level review of the wide number of submissions from well qualified candidates and notified those who did not make the first cut. We are reaching out to each finalist to conduct follow up on interviews before making the final selection. RFP for an ILAE Curriculum Development Consultant

The Northwest School (NWS), http://www.northwestschool.org/, in partnership with the International Leadership Academy of Ethiopia (ILAE), http://www.ilacademy.org/, are positioned  to establish a college preparatory school in Ethiopia;  the first of five such schools that the parent organization, International Leadership Academy, a nonprofit established as a 501c (3) in the state of Washington, will establish in various countries in Africa.

NWS/ILAE are currently looking for a qualified person/s to create a curriculum by integrating the curriculum designed by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education, The NWS curriculum, and best practices from around the world within a global framework that the Academy has developed.

The person/s selected for the assignment may be asked to join the curriculum team traveling to Addis Ababa Ethiopia for two weeks in the summer of 2010 – all expenses will be covered by the Academy. If interested in this opportunity, please respond to the RFP in accordance to the response guidelines. 

ILAE Curriculum Design Retreat
August 14-16, 2009

ILAE has completed an exciting 3 day retreat on August 14-19 to develop the unique ILAE curriculum framework. The retreat was held on the campus of Bastyr Univesity. The 17 participants who attended the retreat included subject matter experts from the Northwest School, University of Washington, Microsoft, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Harvard University as well as several individuals who have deep experience in developing an effective global curriculum.
