    In January, a team of UW business School seniors, led by Laura Umetsu, select ILAE as a project for the Center for International Entrepreneurship state wide business plan competition.

     
    2007

    May 2007

    • ILAE makes the first two rounds of the statewide business competition and becomes one of the top 30 finalists out of more than submitted 300 business plans

    July 2007

    • Two PHD candidates funded by the UW School of Education, complete the research pf the top 20 high schools that could be used as models for ILAE.

    August 2007

    • ILAE co-founders hold the first community Town hall meeting in Seattle to share the vision of the school to over 50 guests

    October 2007

    • ILAE forges a sister school relationship with the Northwest School in Seattle.   

    November 2007

    • UW School of Architecture graduate students complete three alternative conceptual designs of the ILAE campus over the course of summer and fall quarters.

    December 2007

    • ILAE holds a successful fundraising winter gala at the UW husky ballroom to over 300 guests

    Assemble internal team; recruit organizational partners; project research with McKinsey & Co.; obtain initial seed funding

    • ILAE builds its internal strength by assembling a resource group of high caliber individuals, from the public and private sector, who are passionate about education and valuable sounding board.
    • Working with team of consultants from the McKinsey & Co, ILAE co-founders refine the mission, vision, market analysis and financial projection model.
    • ILAE hires a part-time Executive Director to run the day to day operations of the organization.

    Expand organizational infrastructure (board and staff); recruit curriculum team; create draft timeline and business plan

    • ILAE holds a second successful fundraising event at the Pacific Science Center, in conjunction with the celebration of Lucy exhibit – the oldest humanoid remains found in Ethiopia

    Q3 2009

    • Formalize curriculum and advisory team; finalize curriculum draft; refine financial projections; establish round 2 investment goals; identify physical plant opportunities (status: in progress)
    • One of ILAE co-founders (David Makonnen) assumes ILAE’s full time Executive Director role
    • ILAE designs the framework for the ILAE unique curriculum in a retreat attended by experts in various curriculum models, including IB, AP, School of the Future, and the Ethiopian curriculum

    • Ellen Taussig and Bruce Lamb take over as Executive Director and Chief Operation Officer
